At Aviva – A Campus for Senior Life we believe that you are never too old to try something new, to make a difference, or to change someone’s world. In fact, that idea is so ingrained in our identity that we have devoted an entire event to seniors in Sarasota who are changing the way we all think about seniors. Aviva’s annual 8 Over 80 event acknowledges the work of eight extraordinary individuals living in Sarasota who have given their time as volunteers and partners in improving the lives of people in our community. What makes them so extraordinary? Each happens to be over the age of 80 years old and still finding ways to volunteer.
This year’s honorees included Victoria Brown, Carolyn Kaplan, Barbara Lupoff, Nancy Schlossberg, Mickey Fine, Marion Levine, Alfred Rose, and Mary Ann & Ted Simon. Planned by event co-chairs Meredith Ernst, Lori Solomon, and Shari Paler, the event consisted of a beautiful catered brunch at the wonderful Michael’s on East ballroom. This year guests were enchanted by the events special host and master of ceremonies, Joey Panek, a local celebrity known for being an anchor on ABC 7’s Suncoast View. Enjoyed by a full-house, the festivities included remarks from Aviva leadership, an emotional video tribute to our honorees, and a special moment that only a community like Aviva can provide. As a member of the Board of Trustees, Debbie Bresloff knows Aviva to be more than just a physical place but a truly life-changing element in the lives of seniors. Rounding out the morning’s proceedings, Debbie shared the heartfelt story of her own loved one who calls Aviva home. Debbie’s story of finding community, support, love, and friendship for her family member and finding all of those things for herself as a caregiver and child illustrated what makes Aviva unlike any community.
The entire Aviva team shares their immense gratitude to those who attended and supported the efforts of this year’s 8 over 80 event. Proceeds for the event go directly back to the day to day lives of Aviva’s residents across campus including Kobernick Independent Living, Anchin Assisted Living, Anchin Memory Care, and Benderson Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation. Through the generous support of partners and donors, Aviva continues to embrace the many aspects of health and wellness in ways that create a unique and intimate experience for each of our residents. With the efforts of supporters like you, our campus continues to serve as a premier community for seniors through unique programming, spiritual wellbeing, physical and mental security, and dynamic social interaction all guided by Jewish values.
