Aviva Author’s Showcase 2022-Francis Gary Powers, Jr.

Mr. Powers is the author of Spy Pilot: Frances Gary Powers, the U-2 Incident and a Controversial Cold War Legacy.  This book was what the movie “Bridge of Spies” was based on.  The lecture will discuss an overview of what it was like to grow up in the shadow of a famous Cold War figure and his search for the truth after his father’s death in 1977.  There will be a book signing following the presentation.

Aviva Senior Living, Kretzmer Center, 1951 N. Honore Ave

Chuck Palmeri, award-winning author of Boy Soldier: Recollections of World War II, as he presents “Eyewitness to Dachau.” Chuck’s publisher Liz Coursen will lead off the program with a discussion of the Dachau concentration camp’s history, and then Chuck will talk about what he saw when he arrived at Dachau: the “gates of Hell.”   A book signing will follow the presentation.

Aviva Author’s Showcase 2022-Anne Easter Smith

Award-winning author Anne Easter Smith’s books ”…grab you, sweep you along with the story, and make you fall in love with the characters…” (Historical Novels Review). Best-selling author Anne will talk about her publishing journey becoming the author of six biographical historical novels in her 60s. A native of England, her series of six novels set during the Wars of the Roses was inspired by her passion for King Richard III.  A Book signing will follow the presentation.

Aviva Author’s Showcase 2022-Kim Cool

Aviva Senior Living, Kretzmer Center, 1951 N. Honore Ave

Kim Patmore Cool is the author of 30 booksand the editor of the Venice Gondolier Sun and The Shaker Heights.  Kim has been a US Figure Skating judge for 52 years and as a competitive curler 25 she led teams to two nationals and attended the first Olympic training camp for US women curlers. She has been to every continent but Antarctica.  A book signing will follow the presentation.

Aviva Author’s Showcase 2022-Judy Lambert

Aviva Senior Living, Kretzmer Center, 1951 N. Honore Ave

Judy Lambert, who taught at Indiana University wrote PARTY LINES, PRAYERS, AND PRIVIES, a historical novel to tell her daughters their heritage.  These women guided their families through calamities, shame, joy, and struggle, enduring unimaginable hardship, capturing the spirit of women typical of their era.  Those attending will find their stories enlightening, worthy, and empowering, prompting their own long-forgotten family memories and oft-told stories.  A book signing will follow the presentation.

Aviva Author’s Showcase 2022-Clarissa Thomasson

Aviva Senior Living, Kretzmer Center, 1951 N. Honore Ave

Clarissa Thomasson was born and raised in Miami, Florida. She received a BA in English from Duke, an MA from the University of Florida and taught high school English, journalism, and creative writing. Thomasson has nine books and two stage plays. She has written for GRAND magazine, Yesterday in Florida, Eastside Venice Neighbors and the Venice Gondolier. Thomasson’s newest book, Forgotten Florida, is being published by Pineapple Press for release August 1, 2022.
